The choice of the Carolinas for this little military exercise is unnerving. If you look at a climate map, there are not that many places the US Army is likely to occupy that have a similar climate to the Carolinas: Parts of eastern China, eastern Australia, small parts of Italy, southern Brazil, eastern Argentina, and Sochi, Russia. It would be much more logical to hold this exercise, let's say, in New Mexico---somewhere with a desert climate.
Similarly, if you wanted to prepare for combat in a tropical climate, your best bet is sourthern Florida or Hawaii; for most of Europe, your best climate match is the upper the Northeast.
However, that subtropical climate of the Carolinas is pretty typical of much of the American South.
In short, they really seem to be---based on their location---training to occupy the South. That is a little scary.
