What is going in on Gaza is not a genocide.
1) Israel is only attacking targets within the Gaza Strip. But Palestinians live in the West Bank as well. There are 3 million Palestinians in the West Bank, and 2 million in the Gaza Strip. So even if Israel nuked the strip, the majority of the Palestinian population would be left unscathed. It therefore cannot be called an attempt to destroy the Palestinian people.
2) Furthermore, Israel appears to be trying to limit civilian casualties even if the total is higher than the US would tolerate. The US, however, has more equipment and better soldiers. Israel is, after all, a conscript army. It is doing the best it can while minimizing risk to its own soldiers.
3) Palestinians are not a distinct nation; they decided against nationhood when they rejected the two-state solution. They are Arabs. And there are Arabs who live in nations surrounding Israel and within Israel itself. Israel, if it were engaged in genocide, would be taking action against the “Palestinians” within its own borders, but it is not. This further illustrates how absurd the genocide claim is.
4) Israel is allowing aid into Gaza. This is not something they would be doing if they were attempting a genocide.
5) And they are clearly trying to limit civilian casualties. Those are not things someone does if he is committing a genocide. There will still be plenty of Palestinians living in the West Bank when this war is done.
6) If Hamas’ failure to wear proper uniforms causes civilians to be mistaken for combatants, that is the terrorists' fault. You cannot simply point to incidents of civilians being killed and claim it is evidence of genocidal intent. This is esp. true when you realize that Israel relies on citizen soldiers whose prior military service is often far in the past. They are being judged by the standards professional soldiers are held to even though they are not. Even trained, professional soldiers make mistakes in war that lead to civilian deaths. Citizen soldiers fighting an enemy that is often impossible to distinguish from the civilian population will inevitably make more of these mistakes. This is not evidence of Genocide, rather it is evidence of Hamas’s nonchalance towards the rules or war.
7) The definition of genocide also requires that the people in question be destroyed because of their ethnicity, nationality, religion, or race. But Israel is undertaking this operation because they were attacked in order to defend themselves, and deter, future attacks. Muslims and Arabs, indeed Palestinians, continue to thrive in Israel. So, clearly none of those items is the motive.
The war in Gaza is not a genocide. People need to stop calling it one.
