The Marxist Malthusians of The World Economic Forum
A Threat to Our Prosperity, Freedom, And Indeed Our Very Humanity
It is one of the great ironies that God has taken Julian Lincoln Simon from us but has seen fit to keep Paul Ehrlich alive. One can only hope that, as Paul Ehrlich lies in his death bed, he takes solace from the fact that the world’s population will soon be reduced by one person.
In all seriousness, these World Economic Forum people are neo-Malthusians, and (apart from any vaccine conspiracies) they do have some rather nasty and totally unnecessary plans for humanity that follow from their false Malthusian premises. These plans seem to involve disincentivizing rural and suburban living so that we all live in hivelike mega cities and therefore commute less as well as taxing meat to the point that we all end up on a largely vegetarian diet. I almost wish these elaborate theories about the WEF did not exist because one can demonstrate that they are a very evil Malthusian-Marxist-Environmentalist organization simply from the documents they have written themselves (I was very saddened to see the only Democratic politician I respect, Tulsi Gabbard, had attended Claus Schwab's Leadership Forum). Of course, I would not take their hairbrained ideas very seriously, but then when you see the alumni list of Schwab's "Leadership Forum" it becomes clear this lunatic has a great deal of influence.
Their "Stakeholder Capitalism" comes off like a form of Marxism that engaged deeply with Mises and Hayek and asked "How can we maintain capital markets to solve the economic calculation problem but make it serve socialist ends?" Their answer was to take over the corporate boards and fill them with political commissars called stakeholders who literally don't hold a stake in the company at all (we call those shareholders). Then you maintain the market structure and relatively efficient economic calculation but can push on companies to achieve various communistic ends. What is dangerous about this is that it will have a huge negative impact on human welfare but might be just enough more efficient than communism to last a long, long time.
I cannot recommend enough the work of the very underrated economist, Julian Lincoln Simon, entitled "The Ultimate Resource." It refutes the Malthusian lies relentlessly. His basic thesis is that more population equals more brains which in turn equals better tech which extracts resources more efficiently and that the price mechanism rations scarce goods while providing incentives to find more or invent substitutes. Sounds simple, but you would be amazed at how many people fight against this basic economic thesis. I also highly recommend The Skeptical Environmentalist by Bjørn Lomborg (as well as "Cool It" by the same author).
I am rereading "The Ultimate Resource" myself so I can better refute these clowns. After this Covid fight is over, we can expect another even more ferocious one with the Malthusians and environmentalists.
