Note on Nominalism
Nominalism almost requires a theological basis. If language is a gift from God, ascribing magical powers to it is no great stretch. However, if you want to account for the complex phenomenon of language scientifically, nominalism leaves you shit out of luck, since you can't construct a theory to account for something you treat as a metaphysical given, that you use as the starting point of your system.
